Festival Stock Planner

Dhanteras, Akshaya Tritiya, Rakhi, wedding season — what sells before each one, and the last date to give your karigar the order.

Every year it goes the same way: the Diwali order reaches the karigar too late, and half of it lands after the rush is over. The festival date was fixed months earlier — what you actually control is your last safe order date. That one number sits behind the bench days, the hallmarking queue and the transit time, and most shops never work it out.

What it will do

  • Count backwards from each festival to the last safe date to give your karigar the order
  • Name what really sells before Dhanteras, Akshaya Tritiya, Rakhi and the wedding muhurats
  • Split the festival budget across gold, silver, imitation and stones by what sold last year
  • Flag the hallmarking and marketplace event cutoffs that fall weeks before the festival
  • Print a per-festival buying sheet — piece type, quantity, price band, order date

Who reaches for it: The single-counter jeweller and the online seller who buy for four or five festivals a year out of one pot of working capital.

Sellers also ask

When should I give my karigar the Diwali order?

Work backwards, not forwards. From the festival date subtract the bench days for that piece, then the hallmarking centre's turnaround — the queue is longest in the weeks before Dhanteras — then transit, then your own photo and listing time. What is left is your last safe order date. Subtract the karigar's holiday too: many benches empty around Durga Puja and Chhath, exactly when you need them.

What actually sells on Dhanteras and Akshaya Tritiya?

Different money on each. Dhanteras buying leans to having some metal in the house that day — 999 silver coins, small 916 gold coins, light chains — so breadth in low-ticket pieces beats one heavy set. Akshaya Tritiya is the same instinct in gold: small weight bought for the muhurat, usually a coin or a light pendant. The heavy bridal money comes with the wedding muhurats, not with either day.

Which months have no wedding dates, and why does that matter for stock?

The Hindu calendar takes long breaks. There are no wedding muhurats through Chaturmas — Devshayani Ekadashi to Devuthani Ekadashi, roughly July to November — and none in Kharmas, when the sun sits in Dhanu from about mid-December, or in Meen from about mid-March. Bridal stock bought for those weeks just sits. Take the muhurat list for the year off a panchang before you commit capital; the dates move every year.
