SKU Scheme Generator

Structured stock codes like RNG-22K-FLR-001 — scheme builder, collision checks, CSV in and out.

Start from a counter like yours

  1. Your code's shape

Tap a shape and the rest of the journey fills itself — or build your own from the six segments.

    The shape

Your codes will read RNG-22K-FLR-001. The running number belongs to the full prefix — CAT-MET-MOTIF keeps its own 001, so codes stay short for years.

The short-codes every segment draws from are already loaded — open Your short-codes below to rename, add or delete any of them.

  2. Mint a range at the counter, or upload the stock list you already keep.

  3. Clash check against your registeroptional

Check against the codes you already use

  4. Running counters, remembered

The tool remembers where every prefix stopped — next month's mint starts at RNG-22K-FLR-039, not 001 — and holds reserved blocks per counter or exhibition.

What should a jewellery SKU look like?

Short enough to say on the phone, structured enough to search: category, purity, motif, then a running number — RNG-22K-FLR-001 reads as '22-karat floral ring number 1'. Keep the running number inside each prefix, not one giant counter across the shop, and your codes stay three digits for years.

I already have codes on 300 old pieces — do I have to start over?

No. Paste your existing list and the tool checks every new code against it so nothing clashes, and new counters continue after your highest used number. With Tools Pro it will also map the old messy codes to the new scheme and print an old-to-new sheet for whoever keeps your register.

Is the HUID number on my hallmarked gold the same as an SKU?

No — the HUID is issued by BIS, the SKU is issued by you. A hallmarked gold piece carries three marks: the BIS lozenge, the purity grade (22K916, 18K750) and a six-character alphanumeric HUID unique to that piece, which anyone can look up in the BIS Care app. Your stock code is your shop's own reference for the tag, the stock sheet and the phone. This tool builds that code; it does not create HUIDs.

Excel keeps deleting the 0 in front of my stock codes — how do I stop it?

Switch on the Excel-safe text form before you download. Excel reads 001 as the number 1 and drops the zeros; the text form writes every code and counter as ="001", which Excel opens as text and leaves alone, and every other app still reads it as plain text. The file also carries a UTF-8 mark, so Hindi piece names open clean instead of as symbols.

Should the weight or the price be part of a jewellery stock code?

No — keep anything that changes out of the code. The gold rate moves daily and net weight can change after polish or repair, so a code carrying either goes wrong on the tag within weeks. Code only what the piece is and stays: category, purity, motif, size and a running number. Weight, rate and price belong in your stock sheet and on the printed tag, where you can update them without recoding the piece.

Can these codes be printed as barcodes on my price tags?

Yes — every code minted here scans as Code 128, the format tag printers expect, and the page shows a barcode preview of your first code so you can see it before you commit to a scheme. The printing happens in the Price Tag & Label Maker, which lays tags out on A4 label sheets; sending the whole coded list across in one tap comes with Tools Pro.

How many pieces can I code for free in one go?

One hundred pieces per pass, with five downloaded files a day; copying codes off the screen is uncapped and costs nothing. The code builder, the clash check against codes you already use and three of the code book designs are free. Tools Pro reads 5,000 rows in one pass, carries counters on from last month instead of restarting at 001, and adds five more code book designs.
