Custom Order Job Card

One printable job card per custom piece — customer, design photo, metal issued, stones, due date — so nothing gets lost between counter and bench.

A custom order starts as a photo on WhatsApp, a weight said out loud, and a date somewhere in your head. By the time the metal reaches the bench, half of it is on a torn slip and the rest is memory. The argument comes later — over grams, over stones, over what was promised — and by then nobody can prove anything.

What it will do

  • Print one job card per order — customer, design photo, karat, due date — in two copies
  • Record the metal issued to the karigar and the weight returned, so loss is arithmetic
  • Hold the customer's own gold and stones on the card: count, weight, agreed purity
  • Keep metal, stone and making figures apart, ready for the bill at delivery
  • Number every card and show which orders fall due this week

Who reaches for it: Jewellers and online sellers who take made-to-order work — bridal sets, name pendants, resizing — and hand metal to a karigar.

Sellers also ask

What should be written on a jewellery custom order job card?

Order number and date, customer name and phone, the design photo, the karat as it will be stamped — 916 for 22K, 750 for 18K, 925 for sterling silver — the agreed weight with a tolerance, stones by count and size, metal issued, the making or wastage basis, advance paid, and the promise date. If the order is spoken in tola, write the grams too: one tola is 11.6638 g.

How do I record a customer's old gold given against a new order?

Weigh it in front of them before anything else and write the gross grams on the card. If it is touch-tested or melted, write the purity you both accepted and the fine gold it works out to — that figure, not the gross weight, is what comes off the bill. Note any stones removed and returned. Give the customer their copy the same day; a weight disputed a week later is unwinnable.

How do I fix a delivery date for a made-to-order piece?

Work backwards, and keep two dates. The karigar's promise date is not the customer's — leave days for polish, for setting that has to be redone, and, for gold that must be hallmarked, the round trip to the assaying centre, which is out of your hands. If the order came through Meesho, Amazon or Flipkart, the dispatch clock starts at order confirmation, not at the wedding date.
