The WorkbenchPricing

Tola · Pavan · Bhori Converter

Regional gold units to grams and back — tola, pavan, bhori, ratti, masha — priced at today's rate.

Start from a counter moment

  1. Where do you trade?

Tap where you trade — the units follow the region.

    Same weight, different words: 1 tola = 11.6638 g, 1 pavan = 1 sovereign = 8 g flat, 1 bhori = 1 vori = 11.664 g. Switching region later re-expresses the amount — it never clears it.

  2. Type it the way it's said — a family-book line like 5 tola 6 masha goes straight in.

  3. Value at today’s rateoptional

Add today’s 24K rate — the weight prices itself

  4. The counter rate cardoptional

    Download the counter rate card — every unit at 24K · 22K · 18K

  5. Keep a family book

Save family-book entries by name — every entry re-prices itself at today's rate, and prints as one family sheet.

Sellers also ask

1 tola gold is how many grams?

11.6638 g — the British-India standard of 180 grains that Indian bullion trade still uses. Some Pakistani and Gulf counters round it to 11.664 g, and a few quote a 12.5 g 'new tola', so always ask which tola a cross-border quote means. This converter lets you edit the constant if your counter uses a different one.

Is 1 pavan always exactly 8 grams?

In Kerala and Tamil Nadu trade, yes — 1 pavan (sovereign) = 8 g flat, almost always of 22K gold. Don't confuse it with the British sovereign coin, which weighs 7.988 g and contains only 7.322 g of fine gold. Newspaper pavan rates are usually 22K per-pavan, so a per-gram 24K rate must be purity-adjusted before comparing — this tool does that step for you.

1 bhori gold is how many grams?

1 bhori is 11.664 g — the Bengal unit, and the vori used in Bangladesh is the same weight. Below it, 1 ana = bhori ÷ 16 = 0.729 g and 1 roti = ana ÷ 6 ≈ 0.1215 g. A bhori sits a hair above the 11.6638 g tola, close enough that old Kolkata and North India entries get mixed up — this converter prints both readings side by side.

How many grams is 1 masha and 1 ratti?

1 tola splits into 12 masha and 96 ratti, so 1 masha is about 0.972 g and a jeweller's ratti about 0.1215 g. The catch: the gem trade's ratti is 0.182 g, roughly 50% heavier, so a stone quoted in ratti and a gold entry written in ratti are not the same unit. The tool has a switch for each, and the printed sheet states which one it used.

How do I convert a gold rate per tola into a rate per gram?

Divide the per-tola rate by 11.6638 — at a round ₹1,00,000 per tola that works out to ₹8,574 per gram. Then check both quotes name the same karat before comparing, since a counter may be speaking 22K while your rates app shows 24K. Type today's 24K per-gram rate here and the printable card lists per gram, tola, pavan, bhori and masha at 24K, 22K and 18K.

Does this converter show today's gold rate?

No — it never fetches or guesses a rate, because a wrong rate on a counter card is worse than no rate at all. You type today's 24K per-gram rate from your jeweller or a rates app, and every unit prices itself from it at 24K, 22K and 18K. Skip that step and it stays a pure weight converter. The value shown is metal only; making, stones and GST are separate.

Can I convert a whole old family register in one go?

One entry at a time is free — choose the region, type it the way it is written in the book ("5 tola 6 masha"), and read the grams. Pasting up to 30 mixed lines into one A4 table with a total comes with Tools Pro, along with a book of up to 20 named pieces that re-prices itself at whatever rate you type on your next visit.
